The tapered thread mill is a specialist tool for milling standard tapered threads, including NPT, BSPT, and G tapered metric threads. Unlike conventional taps and dies, it uses helical interpolation inside the workpiece to produce a thread with high dimensional accuracy.

It allows tapered threads to be produced in hard materials, lead-free materials, and exotic alloys where conventional threading tools may be difficult or unsuitable to use.
